Orewa is a
bustling beachside resort in the heart of the Hibiscus
Coast.
The beautiful beach runs
along the entire length of the
town providing a broad sandy promenade allow tide. A lookout
just above the town provides breathtaking views along the
beach, Swimming and kite surfing are popular activities and
there are kayaking trips to nearby Warkworth on the
Mahurangi River. The Alice Eaves Scenic Reserve at the
northern end of the beach has some pretty bushwalks through
native stands of kauri, matai and rimu.
Orewa is an
excellent base from which to visit the many attractions of
Rodney District. The Whangaparaoa Peninsula has lovely
beaches and scenic walkways at Shakespear Regional Park. The
plush Gulf Harbour village with its Marina golf course and
cafés is also on the peninsula. Ferries depart from here to
visit Tiritiri Matangi Island an open bird sanctuary and a
haven for endangered native birdlife. In the north of Orewa
is Waiwera with its thermal pools, beautiful Wenderholm
Regional Park, and the Bohemian village of Puhoi.
